Scheduling and Rescheduling Games & Weather Issues
- Weather Issues
- Once a game begins, the home plate umpire has the final discretion as to when to stop or resume games. The umpire may consult with other umpires or board members.
- Canceling Games - Check the answering machine message (257-2684)
- Weeknight games
- Unless cancelled by early afternoon, show up at the park ready to play at the designated time.
- Weekend games
- Show up at the park ready to play at the designated time unless the hotline says something different.
- Philosophy
- Garfield Park is the jewel of Little League Baseball in the area.
- Garfield Park is "fully" scheduled each season. There are some "holiday" dates open, but these are used only as a last resort.
- Postponed games are rescheduled in the next available spot, even if it means 2 games in 2 days, or even 3 games in 3 days. If the game does not affect standings or there is no space available, the game is canceled.
- We accept all players who want to sign up, provided we have game space available, and enough volunteer managers available.
- With our "unusual" public school schedule, it is difficult to start the season earlier than the last weekend of March or the first weekend of April.
- We have to end the season the second or third weekend of June, not only because of summer vacations, but to finish before the Tournament of Champions and the International Tournament.
- Priority
- Major, Minor A, Minor B, then Rookies.
- Major Division games are normally played only on Baumgartner and Volunteer fields.
- Minor A Division games are primarily played at Garfield Park, with some possibility of games at Redwood MS.
- Minor B Division games are primarily at Redwood MS, with some possibility of games at Garfield Park and McPherson ES.
- Rookie Division games are primarily at McPherson ES, with some possibility of games at Garfield Park and Redwood MS.
- Rescheduled game priority goes to upper levels, and to games affecting standings or tournament seeding.
- What happens if a team cannot muster 9 players for a game?
- At game time, if one or both teams does not have 9 players present, the game is considered "suspended".
- The game is usually recorded as a forfeit or a double forfeit if neither team had 9 players available.
- If there is space available, the game MAY be rescheduled. If no advance notice was given about player availability problems, the game is not likely to be rescheduled.
- Other Information
- Only Major Division teams can play double headers.
- We sometimes can alter the Saturday game times to get postponed of games in, starting at 8:30am. Time limits for Minor Division games would be shortened.
- The league schedule is subject to change at any time - especially when games have been postponed or canceled
