Parent Information

This page will try to answer parent questions. For detailed explanations, please feel free to e-mail questions@napalittleleague.org with your questions.

Practice (spring season)

Team managers decide when and how often to practice.  Two to three times a week is the norm until the season starts.  Once the season starts, one or two practices a week is common.

In some cases, the league sets a maximum number of teams events per week.

What are the things parents can do to make Little League work?

Communicate.  If you have something you want to ask, ask!  All of the volunteers are more than willing to answer your questions.  All board members and managers an be reached by e-mail - there is no excuse for letting a question go unanswered.

Volunteer.  We can always use more umpires.  There is always a need for help preparing and cleaning the fields.  Consider running for the Board of Directors.  If you have special skills to volunteer let us know.

Remain POSITIVE.  Remember, these are kids playing a game.

Problems

If you have a problem with a manager or coach, speak to them first.  If the problem cannot be resolved, contact your league's commissioner.

Spring Tryouts

Players missing their assigned tryout date and time can ONLY play in Napa Little League with specific Board of Director's approval.

Missing tryouts does NOT guarantee your child will get to remain in the Minor divisions.

The Board will accept reasonable reasons for a child missing tryouts.

If your child is ill on their tryout day, you can come in their place and speak to the designated Board member.

If you will be on vacation, let the Board know IN ADVANCE

If no excuse is offered, the Board will, on a case by case basis, decide whether or not to accept the player for the upcoming season

If the excuse for missing tryouts is accepted, the player is eligible for draft at ALL age appropriate levels, including the Major Division.

What is an "option"?

An "option" refers to a special condition regarding drafting certain players.  In most cases, parents would only be concerned with one situation - trying to ensure siblings get on the same team.  When you fill out your registration forms, if you prefer your children to be on the same team, make sure to include the name of the player's siblings on the form.  If one of your kids is drafted to a Major Division team (Majors), the "option" is up to the manager.  The manager will be made aware that there is a sibling the parents would prefer to have on the same team.  According to Little League rules, Major Division managers have the choice to accept or decline the "option" request.  If none of the siblings are selected for a Major Division team, Napa Little League rules require managers to select all of the siblings onto the same team, if the parents have asked to have the kids "optioned" together.

Can I tell the league what level I want my child to play?

Once your child is beyond the Rookie Division, no.  Teams are formed with a tryout and draft process.

What is the "draft"?

Managers pick the players on their team by "drafting" them onto their team roster.  Managers usually pick players based on skill or something specific they are looking for on their team.
